Term of office as a Council member
August 2016 - August 2019 First Term
Deborah Kahn has worked in scholarly publishing for over 30 years, starting in books and journals production, moving through acquisitions to senior management positions: most recently with Springer Nature as Executive Vice President BioMed Central and currently as Publishing Director, Medicine and Open Access at Taylor & Francis, where she also chairs the Ethics Committee. During her career she has gained an advanced understanding and experience of ethical issues in research and journals publishing. At BioMed Central, she established one of the first Research Integrity teams in a publishing company, and introduced a training programme for Editors and regular Editors’ conferences which included hands-on workshops for Editors concerning ethical issues. In 2014, Deborah was responsible for leading the response to the discovery of the fake reviewers, in close cooperation with COPE. In 2015, she coordinated efforts between the Think, Check, Submit campaign to educate authors on how to recognise ethical publications. She has served on the Board of OASPA, as a member of the EC-funded SOAP project, an expert advisor to the European Science Foundation, on the Serials Publishers Executive of the Publishers Association and the training committee of STM.
