COPE brings together all those involved in scholarly research and its publication to strengthen the network of support, education and debate in publication ethics

Since COPE and STM's research report on paper mills a year ago, there has been significant activity to take forward the recommendations made in the report. The activity is around collective action, investment in tools and technology, education and engagement, researcher incentives.

Core practices are the policies and practices journals and publishers need, to reach the highest standards in publication ethics. We include cases with advice, guidance for day-to-day practice, education modules and events on topical issues, to support journals and publishers fulfil their policies.

COPE Forum: September 2023

The COPE Forum will follow the usual format where we discuss a topical issue followed by members' cases. The discussion topic is "Peer review models". If you have a publication ethics issue and need help with next steps submit your case for discussion and advice.

We are delighted to announce the launch of a series of practical flowcharts for journals and data repositories who are dealing with ethical concerns relating to data publication.

The authors of this guest editorial discuss cases where data sharing statements were not consistent with their expectations of data sharing in practice.

Three new cases with advice from the COPE Forum: balancing anonymisation and open science during peer review; protecting the safety of authors; conflicting views on the validity of a clinical protocol.
